I think the issue is a combination of things: From the cradle Americans are taught how great their country is, as opposed to many others. You’re free. You can do anything you want to etc. These things could be true, and attainable, if it were true. Your country is amongst the richest and many parts are beautiful. The trouble comes because you’re all almost hypnotised into believing all this stuff, like allegiance to the flag every day etc. the truth is it has made many citizens super loud, over confident (bumptious), and with a big dollop of superiority towards every other country, when we can all see, that’s just not the truth of things: you’ve only got to look at your healthcare and also the long hours you have to put in, some people having two or three jobs. Materialism isn’t attractive, but it’s in abundance in the US. Then there’s your crazy gun laws … not the kind of freedom I desire. I worked in NJ back in the mid 60’s, and yes they had mega pride in their country, like many of us do, but I was not aware of the types of issues so prevalent today. I’ve said this several times over the last few years, but young people like you JP are helping your country to “grow and mature” ….❤

USA is a country of extremes and contradictions. You probably get a lovely big home at an affordable price, but to live an isolated life. Honestly it looks depressing....yet abundant. I don't know what to think.

Enough to see in the Netherlands and if you’ll be near Germany do t forget to visit the eastern part of the Netherlands. You could say the west is where most of the cities are but the east is very beautiful aswell you could consider it the countryside with some very beautiful cities to. Oldest city of Netherlands like Nijmegen very close to the German border along the Waal river.

I'm going to say it. The US/Canada is much better than Europe in terms of city planning. Europe feels overcrowded as hell with everyone and their grandmom breathing down your neck. Not a national park or nature reserve in sight. You live in dense apartments with very little space and no privacy. Yeah, Europe may be better designed for “maximum efficiency” in terms of transportation, but is that really better for people? Are humans robots? The truth is, Europe is better for environmentalists or minimalists who don't care about living in tiny spaces. The entire continent is a minimalists dream. But if you want to raise a family and have some form of privacy, the US is the way to go. Bigger is always better. Whoever says otherwise is coping.

I have been hearing a lot about corruption as the reason why some European countries are being held down on improving their economy. One thing I can say is anywhere you go, there would always be some form and degree of corruptions. Americans always refer countries which don't cooperate with them as corrupt when in fact USA is the most corrupt country in the world. Maybe that would be a good topic for you to discuss next. Compare the corruption level of other countries against the corruption level of the USA. You will be surprised.

As a person from Denmark - ie. a "biking nation" please dont let the traffic be a surprise to you. Learn the rules of biking before going. As a pedestrian and a cyclist and a driver, tourist season in Copenhagen is a nightmare. And it even changes a bit depending on the country. From this short video I can tell you that the rules are different in Amsterdam and Denmark and the differences are bordering on vitally important it seems. So please, please learn before going.

I miss the old nets along biking paths you could throw garbage in without stopping. There was one close to my house here in Amsterdam but they removed it because people can't aim and it's a hassle to clean. I think they still have some in less populated areas. I grew up around a lot of farms and they had so many of those nets.

Putting fuel in your car in Britain is the same as Germany you can pay with your card at the pump if that option is available or you can just put your fuel in and then go into the cashiers desk and pay over the counter with cash or card there are cameras in every fuel station you can't possibly not pay for your fuel and get away with it

Hi just a few pointers 1: the reason you need to ask for the cheque is because over here some people like to socialise after the meal a bit so they give you time. I usually just do the little hand movement when I want the cheque (writing on your palm) followed by a thumbs up when I get the "on it sir" nod. 2: we do have checkers inside the trains / trams / subways. 3: yes cyclists are murderers , thats why even the dutch hate people on bikes. 4: Drugs , yeah in amsterdam you can't throw a pigeon without hitting 2 coffeeshops (cuz that's where the tourists are) , but when out in the countryside they are pretty rare. 5: Carry your passport or ID ON YOU,,, if there is an incident and the cops / town guard need to talk to you they will need to see some form of ID , drivers license is usually fine aswell. 6: DONT SAY YOU ARE AMERICAN , I once laughed myself silly talking to a backpacker on the train she had a canadian flag on her ruck and asked her where she was from. she told me she was from montana , I asked "isn't that the US tho? " and her reply killed me when she said "yeah but if people think i'm canadian they are nicer to me"

Many years ago, I worked for an American multinational. I never forget that when I met the head of treasury at the HQ in DFW, he proudly told me that it took him over 30 years to convince the Irish government that he was an Irish descendant. I don't know how he did it but he said that when he finally got his Irish passport he cried. This was an old American grown up man, very successful at a very high level in the company but yet, he suffered from an identify insecurity. I've been in the US many times, mostly on business and I heard on many occasions that Americans told that they were actually Scottish, Irish or Italian etc. Clearly, some Americans want to be identified with where they originally came from.
